Why are we called South View Consulting?

The name is derived from the belief that every coaching journey is uniquely personal and tailored for the individual.  As founder of the company, Melissa Rosenthal wanted the name to reflect her own journey.

I wanted the name of the company to recognise the exciting journey I’ve had so far...and South View Road is the street where I grew up,” says Rosenthal.

I think back to my early corporate experiences and realise how much the lessons learned are still with me today.

I joined Westpac when I finished my undergraduate studies and was given a wonderful opportunity.  As a junior member of a Product team I was able to work on 2 major projects for the Bank.  The projects were challenging in a problem solving, decision making and a resource allocation sense. And they were highly visible, involved a diverse cross-section of senior management and required tight management of critical third-party suppliers.  It was a formative experience for a young, would-be Product Manager.

I also think about my time as a Strategy Consultant in the US.  I was able to work on projects ranging from a 5 year corporate strategy for an electrical co-operative in rural Alabama to a post-merger integration project for a major international bank to a market assessment for a system of B2B online exchanges. And the more I saw, the more I realised that leadership, people development and culture were at the heart of the success in every case.

I often talk to colleagues and friends about leaders who have helped them form their own style.  The most common response I hear is "I've learned more about the leader I don't want to be" - and that is one of the reasons why I started South View Consulting.  I'd like to think that the current generation of leaders and managers can drive outstanding business results and be positive role models for our future leaders.

The logo was created with two key ideas in mind. Firstly, that the coaching journey is not linear and it can take a number of iterations to derive a solution. Secondly, that, through coaching, confusion can become clarity.

The blue colour was selected as it represents depth and stability and symbolises trust, loyalty, wisdom and confidence.  These are all fundamental elements of our coaching relationships.
